Three Inspiring Moments From This Week

There are some things this week that I have been just so inspired by. So much so, that I wanted to share them with you. In a world that sometimes seems to be in complete chaos, these three moments left me feeling empowered and excited about the future.

This Emmy speech by Michelle Williams I literally almost cried when she spoke because this hits so true to me, my professional journey, and what I see among my peers and friends. It was like she was speaking directly to me, and it’s a stark reminder that this inequality impacts every industry. This is one of the reasons why I started ELSAMARIT, to get out of the toxic corporate culture she described so well. This continues to be a driving force for me to create a space where employees feel empowered to be themselves- without fear of a stamp down on true expression.

“The next time a woman — and especially a woman of color, because she stands to make 52 cents on the dollar compared to her white male counterparts — tells you what she needs in order to do her job, listen to her, believe her,” Williams said. “Because one day, she might stand in front of you and say thank you for allowing her to succeed because of her workplace environment- and not in spite of it." She goes on, “I see this as an acknowledgment of what is possible when a woman is trusted to discern her own needs, feel safe enough to voice them, and respected enough that they’ll be heard.”

Williams then concludes, “They (FOX studios, her employer) understood that when you put value into a person, it empowers that person to get in touch with their own inherent value. And then, where do they put that value? They put it in their work.”

The video below is her speech in its entirety. So moving and such a reminder to be the change, stand up for what we know to be true, and strive to be in an environment that helps you succeed.

Greta Thunberg on climate change, WOW! Is there anything more powerful than seeing a passionate young girl voicing truth to power and being the change that she wants to see in the world? I’m inspired by her tenacity, her strong conviction, and putting herself and her message on the world stage in an unforgettable way.

Gabby Bernstein's call for self care in this article is everything. I am always inspired by her message but when this article arrived in my inbox it struck me as so real and a reminder that self care is a journey- not a destination. It's such an amazing reminder that this message needs to be heard regularly by all, yet is a practice that is unique to each individual and so important as we move through life.

Without my self-care practices I’m a mess. I have anxiety. I feel disconnected,” she said. “Being a spiritual self-help author doesn’t mean you have it all together.
